Remove Video Background keys out a solid-color backdrop — a green screen or blue screen — and makes it transparent, the same technique used behind weather forecasts and virtual-background video calls. It accepts MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, and WebM as input and saves the result as a WebM file with a real alpha (transparency) channel, since standard MP4/H.264 has no way to store transparency at all.
This only works well with genuine chroma-key footage: a flat, evenly lit solid-color background with no shadows, wrinkles, or color spill onto the subject. Feeding it an ordinary video with a complex background won't produce a clean cutout — FFmpeg's colorkey filter removes pixels that match the chosen key color, it doesn't understand what a 'subject' or 'background' actually is.
Because the output needs an alpha channel, it's encoded with the VP9 codec rather than the usual H.264 — this is a genuinely heavier encode that runs slower than most other tools here, and the transparent WebM is best imported directly into a video editor (Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, After Effects) rather than expected to show as transparent in a plain web video player, since browser support for WebM alpha playback is inconsistent. The whole process runs inside your browser via FFmpeg WebAssembly, so your clip is never uploaded anywhere.
