A ZIP file is a container — individual files compressed and bundled together with a small index (the "central directory") at the end listing every entry's name, size, and location inside the archive. This tool reads that index entirely in your browser using JSZip, a pure-JavaScript implementation of the ZIP format, then lets you inspect and download the contents without ever sending the archive anywhere.
Because extraction happens client-side, there's no upload wait and no size limit imposed by a server — the only ceiling is how much memory your browser has available to hold the decompressed files. This also means archives containing sensitive content (financial exports, private photos, confidential documents someone emailed you as a ZIP) never leave your device during extraction, which matters for anyone who's hesitant to hand an unknown ZIP file to a random web service.
The tool lists every file and folder inside the archive with its size, and lets you download entries individually or grab everything as a fresh, unpacked folder structure. Password-protected ZIPs aren't supported — JSZip can read the archive structure but can't decrypt AES- or ZipCrypto-protected entries without the password, which this tool doesn't currently prompt for.
Need to go the other way — bundle files INTO a zip? Use Create ZIP. Got a RAR file instead? RAR to ZIP converts it first.
