Reel Maker takes one long video and splits it into a series of shorter clips sized for Instagram Reels, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts. Upload a talk, webinar, podcast recording, or long-form video, choose an aspect ratio and a clip length, and the tool cuts the source into sequential, evenly-timed segments — filling the target aspect ratio with a blurred, full-bleed copy of the same frame in the background while the complete, uncropped frame sits sharp on top. Nothing from the original shot is cut away; a wide frame going into a vertical 9:16 canvas just gets soft blurred extensions above and below instead of hard black bars or a lost edge.
Everything runs entirely inside your browser tab — there is no upload step, no server-side conversion queue, and no waiting on a remote job to finish. On browsers that support the WebCodecs API (recent Chrome and Edge, with growing support elsewhere), Reel Maker uses your device's own hardware video encoder for a much faster, hardware-accelerated pass. On browsers without that support, it automatically falls back to FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly running on the CPU. Either way, the finished clips are written straight into your browser's memory, ready to preview and download — your original file never leaves your device.
Because filling a mismatched aspect ratio means compositing two scaled copies of every frame together, Reel Maker re-encodes each clip rather than doing a lossless stream copy — this is slower than a straight trim, but it's what makes the output fill a 9:16 or 1:1 frame edge-to-edge with no lost content and no black bars. If you don't want any reframing at all, the "Original" aspect ratio option skips the compositing step entirely and uses a fast stream copy instead, matching the speed of a simple trim.
The browser reads your video's duration directly from the file using the HTML5 video element — no upload needed. Based on your chosen clip length, the tool calculates how many segments the video will be split into. For each segment, FFmpeg seeks to that segment's start time, and if you picked a reframed aspect ratio, splits the frame into two copies: one scaled up to fully cover the target canvas and heavily blurred for the background, and one scaled down to fit entirely within the canvas — keeping the whole original frame — layered sharp on top, centered. The composite is scaled to a fixed output resolution (720×1280 for Reels, 720×720 for Square, 720×900 for Portrait, or 1280×720 for Landscape — sized for fast in-browser encoding) and re-encoded with libx264. If you picked "Original," the segment is cut with a lossless stream copy instead, with no reframing or re-encoding. A live preview in the browser — built from the same blurred-background technique using plain CSS — shows what each aspect ratio will look like before you process anything. Each finished clip is kept in browser memory as its own downloadable file.
Upload your video
Drop a long-form video onto the upload zone — it loads into a preview player so you can confirm it's the right file, and its duration is read automatically.
Choose an aspect ratio
Pick Reels/TikTok/Shorts (9:16), Square (1:1), Portrait (4:5), Landscape (16:9), or Original to keep the source aspect ratio unchanged.
Set your clip length
Use a preset (15s, 30s, 60s, 90s) or enter a custom duration in seconds for each segment.
Review the clip count
The tool shows exactly how many clips will be generated and how long the final (shorter) clip will be before you commit to processing.
Click Generate Reels
FFmpeg processes each segment in your browser, cropping and re-encoding (or stream-copying for Original) one clip at a time.
Preview each clip
Every finished clip appears with its own video preview so you can check the framing and timing before downloading.
Download individually or as a ZIP
Save clips one at a time, or click "Download All as ZIP" to get every segment in a single archive.
Podcast & Interview Clips
Split a long-form podcast or interview recording into short, vertical clips ready to post as Reels or Shorts.
Webinar & Lecture Highlights
Cut a recorded webinar or lecture into digestible segments for a course platform or social teaser posts.
Repurposing Long-Form Content
Turn one YouTube video or livestream recording into a batch of short clips for TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts at once.
Event & Talk Recordings
Break a conference talk or panel recording into standalone moments that work as individual social posts.
Tutorial Segments
Split a long how-to video into shorter, step-by-step clips that are easier to watch and share individually.
Batch Social Content
Generate a week's worth of short-form content from a single recording session in one processing run.
Blurred Fill, Not Cropped or Letterboxed
Reframed aspect ratios keep 100% of the original frame and fill any leftover space with a blurred copy of the same shot — no cropped-off content, no plain black bars.
Fast Path for No Cropping
The Original aspect ratio option uses a lossless stream copy, giving you the speed of a simple trim when you don't need reframing.
Preview Before You Download
Every generated clip gets its own video preview, so you can check framing and timing before saving anything.
Batch Download
Download every clip at once as a ZIP, or grab just the ones you need individually.
